Descrição
The shift towards the use of tissue culture systems for the study of neurotoxicity is accelerating, driven in part by ethical and legislative pressures against the use of animals. But the major impetus has come from a better understanding of the behaviour and properties of different types of nerve cell “in vitro”. Many of the cellular responses to neurotoxicants are retained in culture and valuable mechanistic and predictive information in neurotoxicology can be obtained provided that correct procedures are employed. This book provides an account of the current levels of understanding in this subject and describes the application of “in vitro” systems for use in experimental neurotoxicology. It should be a useful reference for postgraduates and researchers working in toxicology, neuroscience, pathology and related fields.
